Daytrips out of Norwich

Norwich is a small and pleasant city that you can walk through in just a few hours. It might not be the most exciting place in the world – but don’t worry, there’s more to do than just visiting the local Wetherspoons. If you happen to find yourself with a few days to fill here – or if you’re a returning visitor – here are two great day trips you can take nearby:

A Fun Day in Cambridge
Just over an hour away by train is the beautiful university city of Cambridge. It’s full of history, cute little streets, and a relaxed vibe – basically the complete opposite of Teesside. From the station, it’s about a 30-minute walk to the city centre. Take a nice walk along the River Cam or rent a punting boat and float through the canals – a bit like Venice, but with more students and less singing. For lunch, skip the big chains and try a classic pub like The Eagle, or one of the many lovely local cafés. Be sure to visit the Botanic Garden, the Fitzwilliam Museum (great for art fans), and of course the famous University of Cambridge buildings.

Boating on The Broads
Fancy a bit of nature? Take the train (just 20 minutes!) to Hoveton & Wroxham and rent a little boat in the cute village of Hoveton. We got ours at Aldiss Boat Hire and explored The Broads National Park – a beautiful area with rivers and lakes, kind of like the Dutch Biesbosch. Bring some snacks and drinks, and enjoy a super relaxing trip on the water. It takes about 1.5 hours to sail to The Rising Sun pub, a cosy place for a tasty lunch. On the way, you might even spot otters, kingfishers, or other wildlife. A top tip for a sunny day!
